Proofreading & academic editing
Grammar, spelling, and style review for academic work — without altering your content or arguments.
What it is
Proofreading and academic editing is the process of systematically reviewing a near-final text to eliminate language errors and improve clarity of expression — without touching the ideas, arguments, or structure you have built.
The distinction from content rewriting is fundamental: our role is to make visible what you meant to say, not to say something on your behalf. Grammatical errors, incorrect agreements, inconsistent verb tenses, or inconsistently used technical terms can distract an evaluator from the substance of the work. Professional proofreading removes those obstacles.
We deliver two versions: a document with all changes visible via track changes, so you can see exactly what was altered and why, and a clean final document ready to submit or send for publication.
How it works
-
You send the paper and context. Upload the Word document along with any specific instructions — subject area, preferred register (formal, neutral, technical), the publication’s style guide if one exists, and any terminology you want left unchanged.
-
We establish priorities. If there are sections you consider more sensitive (the methodology chapter, conclusions), flag them and we will pay extra attention to those parts.
-
We go through the document in two passes. The first pass handles clear errors: grammar, spelling, punctuation, agreement. The second pass examines sentence flow, terminology consistency, and the clarity of transitions between paragraphs.
-
We add suggestions via track changes. All changes are marked visibly. Where more than one acceptable option exists, we add a comment explaining our choice so you can decide with full context.
-
We deliver both versions. You receive the file with visible changes and the clean final document. If you have questions about specific suggestions, we respond within one business day.
Frequently asked questions
Will you change the arguments or structure of my paper?
No. Proofreading is limited to language and form. Arguments, chapter structure, sources, and conclusions remain exactly as you constructed them. If we notice a logical ambiguity or a contradiction, we flag it in a comment — but we do not intervene.
Can I accept or reject suggestions individually in track changes?
Yes — that is precisely the purpose of track changes mode. Each change can be accepted or rejected independently in Word. You retain full control over the final version.
Do you work with texts in English or other languages?
Romanian is the primary language for this service. For academic English texts, contact us first — availability depends on the subject area and document volume.
How early before my deadline should I send the paper?
At least 3–5 days before the final deadline is recommended, to leave room for an additional round if you have observations after receiving the corrected document.
